April 15

What happened on April 15?

Fast-food’s iconic McDonald’s opened its first franchise restaurant in Des Plaines in 1955. On the same date, Insulin became generally available for use by people with diabetes in 1923.

American Airlines was founded in 1926 to fly people all over the place and one year earlier, in 1926, Caterpillar started providing their heavy machinery.

Italian maestro Leonardo da Vinci (*1452) and Armenian Arshile Gorky (*1904) must have been a joy to watch painting together in an atelier. Luckily, we can view their masterworks under the same roof in art galleries, where they shine united.

Shining on the ice rather than a wall, we cheer to ice-hockey legend Ilya Kovalchuk (*1983). A slightly different kind of cheer than he’s used to from the rink, but certainly wholeheartedly!

And Canadian actor, director, producer & screenwriter Seth Rogen closes off the day by dancing to the tunes of singer Luis Fonsi (*1978). Happy birthday, Despasito!
