April 8

What happened on April 8?

One of Belgium’s many singing heroes, Jacques Brel (*1929), celebrates his birthday on this merry day.

25 years earlier, in 1904, Longacre Square in Midtown Manhattan is renamed Times Square. Fun fact: it was named after The New York Times newspaper.
Makes us wonder what they’ll rename it once newspapers are replaced ‘the next medium’ to bring us the daily news.

Ancient gods, like Venus, certainly never saw printed press coming, did they?
What a life it must have been, without all the drama and frightening headlines.
Anyway… the Venus de Milo was discovered on the Aegean island of Milos in 1820.

Two lovely people discovered life on earth on this day too. Hurray and “Happy Birthdays” to Britain’s fashion designer Vivienne Westwood (*1941) and Canadian actress and director Patricia Arquette (*1968)!
